Warts are non-cancerous skin growths caused by the papillomavirus and are common in children than adults,. Warts are a contiguous disease and there are different types of warts. Warts are not painful, except warts on the feet. Without treatment most of warts are cured over a period of time.

Common types of warts:
The following are the more common types of warts:

  • Common warts –occur around nails and the back of hands with a rough surface and appear in greyish-yellow or brown colour.
  • Foot warts –grows on the soles of feet with black dots and clusters of plantar warts are called mosaic. These are painful warts.
  • Flat warts – are common on the face, legs, and other parts of the body, grows often in large numbers.
  • Genital warts - grow on the genitals and are soft and do not have a rough surface.
  • Filiform warts - small, long, narrow growths that usually appear on eyelids, face, or neck.
Medication:
  • Application of salicylic and lactic acid (which soften the infected area)
  • Freezing with liquid nitrogen
  • Electrodessication (using an electrical current to destroy the wart)
  • Immunotherapy
  • Laser surgery
