A chemical peeling is the least invasive ways to improve the appearance of your skin. The chemical peels are used mostly on the face, neck and hands. Chemical peels or facial peels is a technique used to improve and smoothen the texture of the facial skin by removing the damaged outer layers of the skin in the treatment of facial blemishes, wrinkles and uneven skin pigmentation.
Phenol, trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and alphahydroxy acids (AHAs) are used for the chemical peeling. The appropriate formula for the usage will be recommended by the doctor after consultation.
There are three basic types of peels: Superficial peels treated on all type of skins, a mild dilute acid is used in the treatment process. This is the mildest type of chemical peeling procedure; mostly glycolic acids are used in the treatment and in some cases dry ice (solid carbon dioxide) is used.
Before the peel After consultation and discussion with you, Dr. Durga Prasad, will recommend the treatment and the following areas will be briefed to you. • What would be depth of peel? • What type of chemical solution will be used? • Which areas are to be peeled? • How much risk is involved? In the case of darker skinned people, a small "test spot” is peeled to get a better idea of the results.
Pre- Treatment: Several weeks before the treatment, you will be advised to use pre-treatment creams like moisturizers as night cream and Sun Screens for exfoliating skin and reducing pigmentation to improve the results of the chemical peeling. The following creams prescribed:
